Terms of service

Last updated 21 October 2026

Free Chess is free to use and is run by [operator name]. By playing on the site you agree to these terms. Contact: [contact email].

The service

Free Chess lets you play a Stockfish bot, get a coach on your moves, train with puzzles, and play other people online. The service is provided as it is. We may change, pause or remove features, and we do not promise that the site will always be available.

Accounts

An account is optional. You are responsible for your account and for keeping access to your email address safe. Do not share a sign-in code or a session cookie. Your nickname and picture must not pretend to be another person, a company, or the site's staff, and must not be offensive.

Fair play

When you play online, you must not:

Reviews and actions

We look for statistical signs of some breaches, such as unusually uniform move timing or many tab switches. We do not yet check directly for engine use on a second device, for help from other people, for multiple accounts, or for arranged results. Flagged games are reviewed by people before we act. We may end a game, remove a nickname or picture, limit what an account can do, or close an account. If you think we got a decision wrong, tell us at [contact email] and we will look at it.

Open source

The site's code is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. Nothing in these terms limits the rights that licence gives you.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses from using the site, including lost games or lost data. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the province where the operator is based.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to play after a change means you accept it.
